A deep reflection on existence leads humans to explore their connection with nature and to understand the forces that dwell within them. The tension between the natural and the artificial constantly oscillates between harmony and conflict, balance and chaos.
The contradictions of human nature, present in the cycles of life and death, inspire artists, scientists, and thinkers to transcend individualization in pursuit of a cooperative relationship with their social and natural environment. Feeling the integration, connection, and interdependence with the cosmos is one of the greatest forces driving humanity toward peace in times of war, artificial intelligence, and social fragmentation.
Coined by biologist E.O. Wilson, Biophilia defines our innate affinity for nature. This concept is deeply rooted in the Caribbean and Latin American experience, where landscapes shape culture, perception, and artistic expression.
Next week I will be travelling to Munich, Germany, where I will have the honour of curating this international and intercultural exhibition Biophilia, uniting Juan Tardivo , Hope Zane Bartley , and Juliana Gutiérrez Wiest in a single human-natural ecosystem. Their works explore the beauty of connection with nature while revealing the struggle between integration and fragmentation, instinct and reason.
This exhibition challenges the viewer to engage in a dialogue with their inner self and surroundings, recognizing themselves as part of an ever-evolving ecosystem.
